5 Reasons Root Canals Aren’t Scary

Frightened manIf you need a root canal, don’t panic! You’ve likely heard a few rumors and horror stories about the procedure, but you don’t have anything to fear. New technologies and techniques have improved the procedure significantly, but are root canals painful? No. Thanks to the latest advancements in dentistry, root canals are virtually pain-free. Here are 5 ways your endodontist will keep you comfortable.

1. Digital X-Rays

If you’ve had a dental X-ray in the past, you probably had to bite on a hard, uncomfortable film strip. However, there’s a new way for your endodontist to view your tooth. Digital X-rays are easy and painless. A quick scan of your mouth will create a highly detailed image of your tooth. You don’t have to wait for film strips to develop to save time in the dental chair.

2. Endodontic Microscope

A root canal involves removing the inner layer of your tooth called the pulp. The long-term success of the procedure relies on the roots being cleaned completely. An endodontic microscope provides a better image of the inside of your tooth. As a result, your endodontist can ensure all damage is removed.

3. GentleWave

GentleWave is a revolutionary technology that allows your endodontist to deep clean your root canals. The gentle technology will disinfect and remove debris from the smallest of places without causing any discomfort.

4. Anesthetics

Your endodontist will use a local numbing agent before beginning your procedure. Some patients may benefit from sedation, like nitrous oxide. They’ll create the strategy you need to keep you comfortable from start to finish.

5. Qualifications

Root canal therapy is a complex procedure. Your comfort and the success of the treatment rely on a qualified dental professional. Although many dentists offer the services, it’s better to invest in the qualifications of an endodontist. They have the experience you can trust to repair your tooth using the latest innovations in dentistry.

Recovering from Root Canal Therapy

Although you won’t feel anything during your procedure, it’s normal for your tooth to feel tender for a few days. You can manage it using an OTC pain reliever. Your endodontist will advise you to eat softer foods for a few days until your discomfort subsides. You can also apply a cold compress to the outside of your face to reduce any pain.

If you require a temporary crown, your endodontist will review any additional instructions to protect your tooth. Once your new crown is in place, it will look and feel natural in no time at all.

Save Your Tooth Today

Don’t let fear of pain stop you from saving your tooth. Your endodontist will keep you comfortable while preserving your natural smile.
